The Wuhan coronavirus, Covid-19 brought along many speculations and conspiracy theories. To add to the list, a novel published in 1981 has been said to have accurately predicted the emergence of the virus. The novel, titled ‘The Eyes of Darkness’ was authored by Dean Koontz. Widely acclaimed for his suspense thriller books, Dean elaborates of a particular man-made virus in this novel.
In an excerpt of the book posted on Twitter by @DarrenPlymouth, a Chinese scientist creates a new biological weapon in the form of a virus in a military lab. What sent people the creeps was that the virus was called Wuhan-400, as it was produced in a lab just outside the city of Wuhan.

The line reads :
“They call the stuff ‘Wuhan-400’ because it was developed in their RDNA laboratory just outside the city of Wuhan, and it was the four-hundredth viable strain of man-made microorganism created at the research center.”
It bears an uncanny coincidence to the fact that the only biosafety laboratory in China, the Wuhan Institute of Virology is just 32km away from the source of the outbreak.
The excerpt also mentioned how it’s the ‘perfect virus‘ to exist, given its zero survival rate outside of the human body and the low cost of decontamination process involved after the spread.
While this has stirred up a heated debate, other sources were found which is said to contribute to similar predictions. Sylvia Browne’s ‘End of Days’ novel mentions of a ‘pneumonia-like illness‘ to spread across the globe around the year 2020, considering the book was published in 2008.
The illness was predicted to ‘attack the lungs and bronchial tubes and resist all known treatments‘. She further wrote that the illness will disappear without trace as quickly as it appeared, but will resurface a decade later, only to vanish again mysteriously.
Fellow authors have united with contradicting opinions about the speculations. While some were baffled with the precision of the details, a few others defied them saying they were just mere coincidences.
True or not, one thing’s for sure. Covid-19 has caused enough damage to last a lifetime. While there are no imminent news about the spread of the virus stopping anytime soon, it’s best to keep yourself informed and safe with verified information.
